My name is Leopold Gruner. I am German and European Patent Attorney and founder of White IP.
I advise individuals and companies internationally on Patent Law, Trademark Law and Design Law as well as on utility models and the employee invention system. In addition to individual inventors, I also represent large corporations at international level, including in patent disputes, in the valuation of patent portfolios and on industrial property rights in the course of company takeovers. My main area of work relates to inventions and ideas from the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biology, life science and medical devices. I can use my knowledge as a qualified chemist with a doctorate degree which I obtained from the Institute of Genetics at the Technical University of Dresden.
When accompanying my clients and evaluating industrial property rights such as patents, trademarks and designs, I place particular emphasis on a transparent cost structure and comprehensive advice, from finding ideas to the sustainable protection of registered patents and trademarks. This does not only include the registration of patents, trademarks, utility models, designs and employee inventions, but also the preparatory GPTO trademark search and patent search. I also represent your interests before the competent court in the event of a patent dispute or a trademark infringement.
My patent law firm in Dresden represents a clear philosophy based on transparency and a full-service concept for start-up advice, SME advice and inventor advice. This is rounded off by the knowledge and contacts from my interdisciplinary network.
I am the author of various specialist articles on patent law, co-author of the specialist book “Procedural Practice EPC and PCT” and run the website GG IP – Platform for Intellectual Property Law. In addition, I also give seminars to prepare for the European Qualifying Examination as an approved European representative.
My name is Sebastian Mähler, I am a graduate economist and founder and managing director of White IP Business Solutions GmbH.
I advise and support international inventors, entrepreneurs and companies in the exploitation of their innovations and business ideas.
After my studies of economics, with a focus on management & marketing and business informatics, I worked as a freelance consultant for various companies and as an employed sales manager.
When advising my clients in the areas of financing, market potentials or business exploitation, I attach particular importance to a practice-oriented support, which is goal-oriented and comprehensible. My clients benefit from my practical and entrepreneurial experience, which I have gained through the co-founding of three companies from different areas.
Together with the patent law firm we stand for a transparent, goal-oriented and all-encompassing support of our clients. Thus, you benefit from a legal and a business perspective and support that is designed for sustainability.
Focus on: Financing, Market potentials, Commercial exploitation
My name is Thomas Rössler. I advise clients on intellectual property matters, in Europe and internationally, and represent them before the relevant authorities. In practice, I perform, oversee and coordinate patent grant procedures, opposition proceedings, nullity actions and infringement lawsuits, internationally and nationally in various countries, particularly in Europe and the USA.
A particular fascination for me about my work is the provision of real “holistic” strategical advice, taking into account all relevant aspects (e.g. business, IP and more) at the same time. Whenever I have the opportunity to deeply understand the clients’ actual needs and interest, they are often positively surprised that they end up with more possibilities than they would ever have realistically expected by performing a strategy that is custom-tailored to their situation and goals.
I obtained my technical background through my Ph.D. studies in physics before I committed to the protection and enforcement of IP. I also previously worked as a Patent Examiner for the European Patent Office (EPO), which gives me a very profound knowledge of the internal organization and functioning of the European Patent Office. I can therefore offer my clients particularly pragmatic advice on the proceedings before the European Patent Office. My technical expertise and interest are very broad and diverse and I am always open to extend my spectrum and start up in new areas. I regularly work with inventions in engineering and communication technology while I have developed a special focus in the field of computer-implemented inventions (inventions that are implemented – in whole or in part – on computer systems). I also successfully passed the Patent Bar Examination of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Examinations for the German Specialist IP Lawyer (“Fachanwalt für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz”), with distinction for the Patent Law part. Furthermore, I studied IP law at Technical University of Dresden and at University of Washington, Seattle, Washington (“UW Law”).
At White IP, we analyze and understand the interests of our clients in a particularly comprehensive and efficient way by our close cooperation of attorneys and business consultants and the particularly well-coordinated actions of our team. This way of working makes my job particularly exciting and leads to lasting positive results.
I am particularly enthusiastic about the international part of my work.
Focus on: Patent Law, Computer Implemented Inventions (CII), Software, Physics, Engineering, Utility Models, Trademarks, Designs, International Strategy, Legal Differences between Countries, U.S. Law, Employee Invention Systems, Contracts and Licensing
I am Johanna Engelke, chemist (M.Sc.) and Ph.D. student. Since March 2019, I work as a patent attorney trainee at White IP.
My main areas of interest in patent law education are chemistry, polymer chemistry and organic chemistry. In addition to my training to become a patent attorney, I am performing Ph.D. studies in chemistry at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT, Australia) and the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) in conjunction with the Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden, Germany).
I wrote my bachelor thesis in chemistry in Dresden in 2014, Germany on the topic “Investigation of the aggregation behavior of poly(2-oxazolines) n as a function of HLB”. Directly afterwards, I successfully obtained my Master of Science in Chemistry in 2016. The topic of my master thesis was “Light-sensitive charging and release of fluorescent model substances from pH-reactive polymers”.
I enjoy continuous further education. Thus, parallel to my doctorate, I not only attended a certificate course on “Technical and Scientific Language”, but also another three-semester course on patent law and IP rights. This enabled me to complement my other training courses very well. These include, for example, certificate courses on “Law and Toxicology”, “Project Management” and “Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis of Large Groups of Substances”.
